Carrie Fisher, everybody’s favorite princess and general from a galaxy far far away, is set to portray the role of Leia Organa one last time.
In an exciting cast announcement on July 27 for the heavily anticipate final chapter in the Skywalker saga, Carrie Fisher was announced to be returning in Episode IX.
J.J. Abrams has made it abundantly clear that he wants to honor Carrie Fisher’s legacy as Leia after her tragic passing in December 2016 and would never recast or use CGI. He however stated that, “Finding a truly satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga without her eluded us,” and provided to shock millions of fans, announcing that she will be returning through the use of unseen footage from Episode VII, The Force Awakens, which released in 2015.
The announcement has been supported by countless fans as well as notable figures with Carrie Fisher’s brother, Todd Fisher, stating that he, “couldn’t be be more personally thrilled and happy that our Carrie will reprise her role as Princess Leia…”
Along with the exciting news of Carrie Fisher returning, it was also announced that Mark Hamill will be returning, and Billy Dee Williams will be reprising his fan favorite role of Lando Calrissian, who has reached new heights of popularity with Donald Glover’s epic portrayal of a younger Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Newcomers Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant were also announced to be joining the cast in as of now unnamed roles.
With all the hype already surrounding this final installment, get ready for more updates in upcoming months as this movie takes off in theaters; December 20, 2019.
