Merriam-Webster announced the addition of 840 new terms being added to the dictionary for 2018. Merriam-Webster in a statement said “the addition of new words to a dictionary is a step in the continuous process of recording our ever-expanding language.” Which in other words, is fancy talk for them doing their part in keeping with the times.
Many of the terms added are in the technological realm or abbreviations. A few of our “faves” are the addition of words like GOAT, fave, guac, and rando in the abbreviation department.
In the tech side of things, Instagram, as a verb was added along with others; haptics, airplane mode, force quit, and bingeable.
