According to District Attorney’s office (Bucks County), all the four men had gone to purchase marijuana from DiNardo, but the motives for killing them are not yet clear. Patrick, the first victim, had gone to buy marijuana worth $8000, but he only had $800, and DiNardo took him to a remote place on the farm where he shot him and buried him. Finocchiaro wanted to purchase a ¼ pound of marijuana for $700 (after two days from the first murder occurrence). DiNardo and Sean decided to rob him and later on killed him. Still, on the same day, the cousins met up with the other victims, Sturgis and Meo, and agreed to sell them marijuana. They robbed the pair, and DiNardo shot Meo and ran over him to make sure he was dead and shot Sturgis as he tried to run away.
