Every person out there enjoys a compliment, but no one expects to hear a compliment about their body from a President, and not only any President, but the President of the United States of America. Now, this person in question is a woman, Brigitte Macron, who is the First Lady of France, and this President is Donald Trump.

It was on Friday, July 14th, when President Trump and his First lady Melanie Trump arrived in France for an official visit. Trump was invited as a guest for the Bastille Day celebration that was taking place.

At the start of the conversation with the First Lady, Trump was seen having an awkward handshake before uttering his remarks.

“You’re in such a good shape,” President Trump complimented Brigitte Macron. She was quick to respond to that compliment by stepping back and went straight to Melanie Trump who was seen smiling. Trump then turned to the French President Macron, and added: “She’s in such good physical shape.”

This bizarre happening was seen from a video that was broadcasted on Facebook live by President Macron’s official Facebook account. That episode where Trump is heard complimenting the physical shape of the French First Lady has gone viral on many social media platforms.

There was an uproar on Twitter after the video surfaced with claims that President Trump was a sexist for uttering such words to the French First Lady. There have been many allegations of Trump making offensive remarks as well as inappropriate behavior towards other female counterparts. He first publicly commented on the physical appearance of the comedian Rosie O’Donnell and later through a phone call he had with a Washington correspondent Caitriona Perry in his oval office.

Don’t forget that Brigitte Macron is 64 years old while her husband, France President is 40 years old. It makes her older than her husband by 24 years.  She was once a teacher to the Now-President of France Macron when he was young, and he fell in love with her. Macron later promised to marry her, and kept his promise despite the age difference. Trump is 7 years older than her.

The internet has gone viral to condemn such an act by arguing that the President was objectifying a woman (in our case Brigitte Macron).

It’s not the first awkward greeting for Trump and the French. President Trump’s long handshake with the French President Emmanuel Macron in Brussels would be the first.

Macron, later on, stated that “my handshake with him (President Trump), it’s not innocent.” He added, “it’s not the alpha and the omega of politics, but a moment of truth.”
